Celebrity Big Brother participant James Whale spent Christmas in intensive care following his hospitalization amid a battle with terminal cancer.

At the age of 73, James is confronting stage four kidney cancer that has metastasized to his spine, brain, and lungs. He had previously indicated that Christmas 2023 might be his final one after ceasing treatment.

He was admitted to the hospital due to influenza a week ago but was discharged from the ICU on Monday and will now continue his recovery at home.

His wife, Nadine, 59, expressed her relief to fans, stating: "After a concerning week, I am pleased to announce that @THEJamesWhale is out of ICU and back home, having once again faced the Grim Reaper."

She added, "This time he was challenged by Influenza A, but he prevailed. Our hero is home for New Year's Eve."

In April, James was honored with an MBE for his contributions to broadcasting and charity. On that special occasion, he donned a navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and a patterned blue tie.

Nadine complemented him beautifully in a white dress and pale blue coat, accessorized with a matching hat.

Reflecting on his MBE recognition last December, James remarked, "No one was more surprised than I was. I extend my gratitude to everyone who made this possible over the years, especially those at Talk Radio and TV."

He continued, "I have been working since the 1970s, and I thank the team at Kidney Cancer UK; this honor is for all of us."

Kidney Cancer UK expressed their pride, stating, "We are thrilled that our founder and Lifetime President @TheJamesWhale received an MBE in the New Year Honours List. Congratulations, James."

James began his broadcasting career at Metro Radio in 1974, where he was a pioneer of late-night radio phone-ins. He gained prominence in the 1980s with his candid style, dry humor, and straightforward approach on The James Whale Radio Show, amassing a dedicated following.

He later spent 13 years at TalkSport before hosting the drivetime show on LBC and the breakfast show on BBC Essex. His autobiography, Almost A Celebrity: A Lifetime of Night-Time, was published in 2008, and he subsequently revived The James Whale Radio Show.
