Newcastle United is keen on acquiring Southampton's promising young talent, Tyler Dibling, in 2025, while also keeping an eye on James McAtee's situation at Manchester City. Dibling nearly joined Newcastle in the summer of 2022, having met with club representatives during a visit to Tyneside. He had previously attracted the attention of Eddie Howe and the recruitment team after netting a hat-trick for Southampton's Under-23s at St James' Park when he was just 16 years old.

At that time, former sporting director Dan Ashworth was leading the pursuit, but Dibling ultimately signed with Chelsea, only to return to Southampton two months later due to difficulties adjusting to life in London. Recent reports indicate that Newcastle maintains a strong interest in Dibling, especially with new sporting director Paul Mitchell's connections to Southampton, which keeps them informed about his status.

Dibling is versatile, capable of playing both as a midfielder and on the wing. Despite Southampton's challenges, he has made a notable impact this season with two goals in 12 league starts. His current contract runs until 2026, with an option for an additional year, although discussions regarding a new deal have yet to yield results.

While the 18-year-old is expected to remain with Southampton for the current season, Newcastle is well-positioned to pursue him in the summer, given their high regard for his potential. Additionally, McAtee, a midfielder at Manchester City, is also on Newcastle's radar. Like Dibling, he can operate as a winger and fits the profile of young English talent that Howe and the club have been targeting.

The 22-year-old has a valuation of £25 million and is attracting interest from various clubs both domestically and internationally, particularly as his first-team opportunities at City have been limited to three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season. Currently, Newcastle's priority is managing outgoing players, and sources suggest that significant new signings are unlikely in January. Should McAtee remain at City, Newcastle may revisit their interest in him during the summer.
