Liam Williams has acknowledged that the past six months have been exceptionally busy for him .However, following his return to rugby last weekend after a hiatus since July, the reappearance of the two-time British & Irish Lion brings a sense of festive joy to both Saracens and Wales. At 33 years of age, Williams certainly has much to celebrate this holiday season. On the field, he has returned from injury, and off the field, he has recently embraced fatherhood for the first time. He and his wife, Sophie, have welcomed their first son, Leo, while Williams also completed a transfer back from Japan for a second term in the Gallagher Premiership. Initially, Williams was poised to embark on a second season with Kubota Spears in the Far East, but changes in his family circumstances prompted him to seek proximity to his home in Wales.

When Saracens utility back Alex Goode sustained a quad injury, an opportunity arose for Williams to join Mark McCall’s squad as injury cover, and the transition occurred swiftly. During his initial tenure with Saracens, Williams celebrated victories in both the Premiership and the Champions Cup. However, following the club's salary cap violations, they were compelled to reduce expenses, leading to Williams being one of the first players to leave, subsequently returning to his childhood club, Scarlet’s.
A pivotal player for Wales during their successful years under Warren Gotland, Williams represented his country in their matches against Australia in July. His second debut for Saracens, which took place against State Francis last Saturday, marked his first appearance since then, and he made a notable impact by scoring a trademark try.

“It feels great to be back. I haven’t played rugby for a while—since the summer tour,” Williams remarked. I encountered some issues with my knee prior to the Australia series, stemming from the latter part of the season in Japan. I participated in the two Tests in Australia, but I had to have my knee drained two to three times a week just to compete in those matches. Upon my return, I underwent a meniscus repair, which was a minor clean-up, but it hasn’t felt quite right since.”
