H-1B Electronic Registration Period

The H-1B electronic registration period commenced on March 1, 2022, at noon Eastern Time. Throughout this registration window, employers and their representatives have been accessing their USCIS accounts to submit candidates via the system. USCIS plans to conclude the initial registration period on March 18, 2022, at noon Eastern Time.

For Fiscal Year 2021, USCIS received a total of 274,237 H-1B registrations and initially selected 106,100 registrations, which were projected to meet the numerical allocations for that fiscal year. Due to a lower than expected filing volume from the initial selection, USCIS conducted a second selection in August 2020, resulting in an additional 18,315 registrations being selected. This brought the total number of selected registrations to 124,415.
For the fiscal year 2022, USCIS received a total of 308,613 H-1B registrations and initially selected 87,500 registrations, which were anticipated to meet the numerical allocations for that fiscal year. On July 29, 2021, USCIS announced a second selection round, which added 27,717 registrations, bringing the total selected registrations to 115,217. The petition filing period for those selected on July 28 commenced on August 2 and concluded on November 3. Subsequently, on November 19, 2021, USCIS revealed a third selection round, which included an additional 16,753 registrations, resulting in a cumulative total of 131,970 selected registrations. The petition filing period for these registrations began on November 22, 2021, and is set to close on February 23, 2022.

It is anticipated that this year will witness a significantly increased number of submitted registrations.

Registration Selection: Following the conclusion of the registration period, USCIS will conduct the lottery and subsequently send electronic notifications to all registrants whose registrations have been selected. These notifications will indicate the registrant's eligibility to submit an H-1B cap-subject petition on behalf of the individual specified in the notice, within the designated filing period. The account holder who submitted the selected registration will receive an email or text message alerting them that an action has been added to their account, requiring them to log in to view the complete notice. USCIS aims to inform registrants with selected registrations from the initial registration period by no later than March 31, 2022.
Upon notification from USCIS to companies and/or authorized representatives regarding the selected registrations, the my USCIS account will reflect one of the following statuses for each submitted registration:

Submitted: This indicates that the registration has been submitted and is eligible for selection. If the initial selection process has concluded, this registration will continue to be eligible unless it is later invalidated for any subsequent selections within the fiscal year it was submitted.

Selected: This status signifies that the registration has been chosen to file an H-1B cap petition.

Not Selected: This indicates that the registration is not eligible to file an H-1B cap petition.

Denied: This status is assigned when multiple registrations have been submitted by or on behalf of the same registrant for the same beneficiary. If a registration is denied due to being a duplicate, all registrations submitted for that beneficiary by or on behalf of the same registrant for the fiscal year will be rendered invalid.

Invalidated-Failed Payment: This status indicates that a registration was submitted, but the payment method was either declined, not reconciled, disputed, or otherwise deemed invalid.
