Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: X Rolls Out New “About This Account” Feature to Boost Transparency

X Rolls Out New “About This Account” Feature to Boost Transparency:

Elon Musk’s X has started introducing a new profile feature designed to provide more transparency about user accounts. The “About this account” section reveals key details such as the account’s location, the number of times the username has been changed, the original join date, and the platform used to download the X app. The goal is to curb inauthentic activity on the platform — a challenge that’s becoming even more complex in the age of AI-driven bots.

The feature was first previewed in October, when X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, announced that the company would begin testing the display of these details, starting with his own account and those of other X employees. By making this information public, X aims to help users better assess whether an account is legitimate or potentially operated by a bot or malicious actor.
For example, if an account’s bio claims to be from a U.S. state but the profile details reveal it’s based overseas, users might question the authenticity or intent behind that account.
Last weekend, when a user requested that Musk require accounts to display their location, Bier responded, “Give me 72 hours.” Since then, more users have reported seeing the “About this account” option appear on their profiles.

To access this information, users can simply click the “Joined” date on their profile via the web or the X mobile app. This opens a detailed page showing the account’s join date, base location, username change history, and how the account is connected to X — such as through the U.S. App Store or Google Play.
